Packing tape, boxes, and losing five feet....

I'm moving.  Not moving districts.  Not moving cities.  Not moving grades.  Just moving buildings.

I just ended my 9th year teaching, and I've accumulated A LOT of stuff.

This is SOME of my stuff...

This is some MORE of my stuff...

This is stuff I still need to pack!  And, not to mention... a desk, a filing cabinet full of files, and all my construction paper and art supplies.  (I can assure you there is lots of glitter to pack.  Kindergarten teachers LOVE glitter!)

Can you tell I had a 2 year old visitor in my room today?  Note the open Play-Doh, Barbies, and Dora that is out!  I love my friend's little girl!  She provided oodles of entertainment against the sound of packing tape and Foo Fighters playing in the background!

So, I'm trying not to freak.  I'm trying to think calmly and rationally, even though all I really want to do is shove things in a box and label it "Misc."

See, I'm trying to be organized.
I'm really trying.

I've purged some things.  I've organized some things.  I've left things strewn about because I don't know where to put them yet.  (Pssst... I feel a giveaway coming on because of my purging... oh.  my.  goodness.  unopened, brand new teacher goods are a travesty!!!!!)  And, I have 150 followers now.  Why, hello?  When did this happen?

So, any advice from people who have traversed rooms?  (A smaller room nonetheless!)  I'm already reviewing possible classroom layouts in my mind so I can decide which shelves I want to snag and slap my name on!  Hello!  Trying that organization thing again!

I have to share my moment of happy from yesterday...

That's why I do what I do...
And, that's why I'll keep packing tomorrow!  :)

Thirsty Thursday...

And, I'm not talking about the ones you may have had in college!

It is H-O-T!

And only going to get hotter!  I'm so glad I had a case of water here at school for my kindergarten kiddos. They were parched post-recess!

Luckily, we are at t-minus 2 days!  (WOOT!)  I have grade cards, end of the year packets, end of the year gifts, end of the year everything.... DONE!  Okay, not everything.  I still have to pack my classroom because we're moving buildings, but all the little doo-dads and whatnots we have to do to close up the year are complete.  I'm looking forward to packing up my room in peace (without little kiddos constantly asking me what I'm doing!).

Today, we finished our memory books.  They loved working on them every minute!  Thumbs up to Lidia Barbosa at...

... for such an awesome freebie during teacher appreciation week!  My kinders loved recording their kinder memories!

Of course, as a yoga lover, I was so happy to see this as a favorite center...

Um, is that not the cutest?  We have green yoga mats!  Love it!

Also, I have been OBSESSED with the "krazy kool summer" theme I've seen floating on blogs and Pinterest! I have to give another set of thumbs up to Teri at A Cupcake for the Teacher for her super cute tags!  Click the link above to go to her post and freebie!

I gave my kids these beauties today...
There are totally bubbles hidden in the middle... plus, I wrote their names on their tumblers!
One of my kids said he was going to take his twirly straw and cup to the beach!  Hooray!

Okay, I've been abandoning hubs this evening!  He called and wanted to see if I wanted to meet for dinner.  Hmmm, it's 90 degrees.  I've been with 22 5, 6, and 7 year olds all day.  I have been packing my things and am sweaty mess.  Yes, dear.  I'd LOVE dinner...

... and, I may make it a "Thirsty Thursday" with a margarita to cool me off! :)

Movin' on up & keeping them occupied!

With everything going on, I don't think I've mentioned this, but...
we're.  moving.  to.  another.  building.

(Did I just hear a collective "argh!" from everyone who understands this?)

So, on top of assessments.  (Boo to completing them, but YEA!  for seeing how far my kinder kiddos have come!)  I am trying to start taking things down a bit at a time.  Plus, since I'll be starting year 10 teaching K, I think it's about time for a purge of things I no longer use.  (Anyone else relate to how hard it is to throw anything away????)

So, since I've been a-testing, I've had to occupy my kids in low to no-prep, educational, engaging activities.  The hottest thing right now is... drum roll please... Knock it Off! Subtraction by Dots-n-Spots! They are obsessed!

Who doesn't love a 12-sided dice?!

They are also obsessed with their autograph books and Kinder Memories books from...

I love how kindergartners will remain occupied when given markers and permitted to wander about the room!

How may days do you have remaining?  How much assessing do you still have left?  And, how are you keeping 'em occupied?

I hope you're having a splendid end to the school year!  T-minus 7 days!  WOOT!

First step...

It has been five weeks since I had a "normal" Sunday.  I am going back to work tomorrow.  I am nervous.  I am excited.  I am missing my kiddos.  I am tired.  I am sad.  I am a bundle of emotions.

But, it's time to step forward.  Life was in limbo for 5 weeks.  And now, life is back.
(Seriously, I haven't seen an alarm clock since April 4th!!!!)

Today's step forward was working on end of the year gifts for my kiddos.  I have a fabulous family who has been checking in on me and want to help any way they can.  Um, would you like to put end of the gifts together, please?

I think every elementary student in the U.S. will be getting gifts that include bendy straws & Kool-Aid this year, thanks to Pinterest!  But, I love the theme and grabbed adorable (FREE) tags from... A Cupcake for the Teacher!  They say... "Have a krazy kool summer!"  Isn't that sweet?

FYI for all you procrastinators who haven't put anything together yet...
Whirly straws, pack of 6, 98 cents at Wal-Mart in the party favor section!
5 for $1.00 packs of Kool-Aid at Meijer!

Tumblers, pack of 4, $1.00 at Wal-Mart!
(In our school colors, added names with a Sharpie, and a paw print to go with our mascot.)

I will also be chucking in clearance spring pencils, a la Target Dollar Spot and bubbles from Wal-Mart's end of summer clearance last year.  My nieces and nephew think I need to add candy in the cups.  My sister suggest unfrozen freezer pops and some water balloons.

Who knows what else I'm going to add!  All I know is these little guys deserve this and so much more.  They've been patient, kind, understanding, loving, resilient, etc... while I was with my dad.  And, I can't wait to see those smiling faces in the morning...

Ready to take a step with me!

Unfortunate update...

Thank you to all who have been checking in on me, touching base, and praying for my dad.  Unfortunately (for me) and fortunately (for him), my dad joined the rest of our family in Heaven on Sunday night.  Around the time my dad passed, I was asking God for a "rescue," and it wasn't until yesterday that I realized my father has the ultimate rescue... to be be with God in Heaven!

While I sound positive, my heart hurts.

I was lucky enough to stop into school yesterday morning to help get things ready in my room for the week, and the hugs I received from colleagues, friends, my students were... amazing!

My heart still hurts.

My dad was the most selfless, caring, loving person I know.  He gave everything for me and my sister.  And, I'm going to miss him.
